CHRISTIAN CAMACHO IS BACK WITH THE REDS
New York Salamina opened their Pre-Season
on Friday night at Bryant High School Field with a convincing
victory versus the Cosmopolitan League D2 side of SPORTING
ASTORIA. The Reds with a fairly young team of U-21 players
sliced and diced thru the Sporting defense for eight goals.
The game marked the return of midfielder
CHRISTIAN CAMACHO who after a two year stint in the Moldovan
First Division in Europe is back wearing the Red and White
of Salamina NY. Camacho scored three goals while assisting
on three others. 18 year old Chris Peralta had a hat-trick
of his own at the forward position and was indeed instrumental
in the Reds attack.
"We are happy to have a player like
Camacho back in our arsenal for this fall" commented Manager
Andrew Parperides and added that "our young players are
working hard during this Pre-Season. Salamina will clash

Nikola Dokic march on the yet another title for the Reds
in the NYCASL!
Without a major problem NY Salamina
defeated Deportivo NYC last Saturday at Murray Park to
win yet another Summer Tournament! This Time the Reds finished
in First Place in the regular season that ended two weeks
ago. In the playoffs, Salamina defeated NY Roma 2-0 in
the Quarter Final, Inter Astoria 4-1 in the Semi-Final
and Deportivo NYC by the score of 5-0 in the Final!
Scorers were Nikola Dokic, Diego,Chris
Peralta, Guillermo and Andres Chung.
U-10 BOYS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP
It came down to the last match of
the season! The U-10 Salamina Strikers needed a victory
or a tie to guarantee themselves the title! Salamina was
3 points clear of the second place team in the standings,
British Lions. The young Strikers defeated the Lions 1-0
back in May with a late goal therefore giving Nikola Dokic's
team the confidence to march and hope for the Championship
in the New York City Soccer League.
Their opponent last Saturday at Murray
Park was the feisty green shirts of Veras United who gave
Salamina all they can handle in such a crucial match. Salamina
started the game with two key absences in the line-up.
Defender Hal Cogalmis and midfielder Daniel Gomez were
not available to play due to injuries but Nikola Dokic
reached into his bench and took care of business. Din Jeyna(right
fullack) and Elvin Mersinovic(central midfield) filled
in nicely along with regular stand outs David Gallego in
goal, Mouts Cogalmis (sweeper), Edward Garcia (fullback),
Rasvan Ionescu (forward), Ryan Guerbi (central/right midfield)
and Jesse Lemus (forward). Thomas Lelan, Sammy Lukolic,
Yazid and Nermin Velovic comprised a solid bench of the
young strikers that pretty much knew that the championship
was at stake. Salamina played exceptional defensive soccer
and created numerous opportunities with quick counter attacks.
Jesse Lemus had at least five classic opportunities to
score in the second half. The Strikers' efforts were finally
rewarded 10 minutes before time when Rasvan Ionescu threaded
the net with a strong volley after a rebound save from
the opposing goalie and gave Salamina the glorious victory!
League commissioner, Mr. Rudolph Sanchez
was at the game to present the Championship Trophy to the
Salamina U-10/11 Strikers. All the players and Coach Nikola
Dokic received well deserved championship medals as the
boys took their lap of glory around the field! "We are
ecstatic about our Strikers" said Club President Andrew
Parperides after the game! "Congratulations to all of our
players, our Head Coach Nikola Dokic and all of our supporters
for a great season!
We are very grateful to see that our
Youth Program is very successful and these young players
have a great future in Soccer" he added.

at Forest Hills but overcame the injury problems that plagued
the team the last month and wanted this game from the very
beginning. Salamina opened the score from two quick goals
from Alex Zorrilla. Envigado answered quickly with two
goals of their own as a result from misclearances from
Salamina defender Thomas Gelardi. Alex with a right angle
blast upped the score 3-2 for the Reds just before halftime!
Salamina opened the second half with a goal from Guillermo
Arbelaez from a counter attack give and go with Alex. Envigado
cut the Salamina lead to 4-3 five minutes before the end.

TIES GAME 2-2
The Reds had many opportunities to
put the game away in the second half versus Bean's Ridgewood
last Wednesday night at Icahn Stadium. The Reds with two
first half goals from Carbon and Dejean Tolmac went up
2-0 but Ridgewood came back with a direct free kick on
the 74' to cut down the lead to 2-1. A counter attack on
the 87' with a long volley that caught the Reds defense
off guard knotted the score at 2--2 .
"We had at least three good chances
to go up 3-0 with Guillermo, Diego and Carbon early in
the second half. But you can't take a lead for granted
because it can't evaporate very quickly" commented Andrew
Parperides after the game. NY Salamina will clash versus
Dynamo Cosmos on November 30th at 9 PM. The Reds are looking
at a must win if they plan to make the playoffs.
GUNNERS 5-0, REMAIN IN FIRST PLACE
NY Salamina continued its undefeated
streak in the Gotham League last Wednesday night with a
comfortable victory versus the Brooklyn Gunners. The Reds
with newcomer 18 year old Carbon opened the score on the
29'. The Young Colombian added another on the 43' with
a slicing shot left shot that found the upper far corner
of the net. Ousman Barry upped the score to 3-0 on the
64' with a long volley that found the Gunners' goalie guessing
the wrong way. Carbon with a clever chip made it 4-0 on
the 76'. Hugh Campbell capped the parade of goals on the
84' with an individual effort through the middle of the
The game marked the return of Giannakis
Sapountzis after a long absence with a leg injury. The
18 year old midfielder looked a bit rusty but gave a solid
effort for about 70 minutes. NY Salamina has a narrow one
point lead in the standings over Molan Lave. "We have a
long way to go before we can talk championship" commented
Manager Andrew Parperides. "We are playing good soccer
with the majority of our players under 23 years old, which
is encouraging". The Reds clash with the Brooklyn Chaos

CLIMBS INTO FIRST PLACE AFTER 2-0 WIN
The Reds outlasted Molan Lave last
Wednesday night at Randalls Island Icahn Stadium. NY Salamina
struck at the 23' with Dejean Tolmac after a perfect through
pass from newcomer Pierre. The Reds came close to 2-0 with a rocket shot from
MILOS SAVIC at the 57' that pounded the horizontal post. The 2-0 did come at
77' from Dejean Tolmac's bending volley from an indirect free kick following
a pass from Guillermo Arbelaez.
This also marks Jason Carvajal's first
shut out in a Salamina uniform. The young goalie is only
19 years old. "We defeated a worthy opponent tonight in
Molan Lave" commented Manager Andrew Parperides. "It was
a close game from the beginning end."
The Reds will get a bye in the schedule
next week and will continue their obligations in The Gotham
League on Wednesday October 27th versus the Brooklyn Gunners.
The win finds NY Salamina in First Place of the standings
with 7 points after 4 games.

AND WIN 6-4 IN GOTHAM LEAGUE
NY Salamina clashed with BROOKLYN
RED STAR on Monday night in the New Gotham League. The
game took place at Ichan Stadium in Randalls Island. Despite
of the steady rain falling, Salamina with two early goals
from Tolmac and Steven went up on the score 2-0 in the
first twenty minutes of the game. Both goals came from
good shots from just outside the box. Brooklyn came back
with three unaswered goals in a matter of ten minutes.
The Reds with a header from Alex after a corner kick tied
the game at 3-3 and that's how it ended at halftime. The
second half belonged to NY Salamina.
The Reds continued to pour on the pressure
and added three more goals from Thomas Gelardi, Milos and
Dejean Tolmac. Brooklyn with a late header after a free
kick narrowed the gap to 6-4 but by then it was too late
as the whistle found NY Salamina victorious once more.
"Obviously we are happy about the
win and the three points. But we need to correct our defensive
errors because that could be a real problem in the future." Those
were the comments of Manager Andrew Parperides after the
game. LINE-UP: Carvajal, Insuasti, Franklin, Hughes, Barry,

U-19 ROLLS OVER SOCCER ABC 4-2
The U-19 Reds continued their undefeated
quest in Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League last Sunday
at Con Edison Field. NY Salamina jumped on top versus Soccer
ABC on the 26' with newcomer Amr Bouach on a strong leftfooted
volley. Defensive misclearances plagued the Reds defense
thereafter as the Reds gave up two gift goals and fell
behind in the score by halftime 2-1.
The U-19's regrouped at halftime and
stormed back in the second half with three unaswered goals.
Francisco "Paco" Curiel and Amr Bouach assisted on goals

TIE BROOKLYN PATRIOTS AT PARADE GROUNDS 3-3 IN CJSL OPENER
The NY Salamina Reds U-19 squad has
also arrived! The Reds traveled to Brooklyn last Sunday
afternoon for the season opener of the Cosmopolitan Junior
Soccer League. Salamina opposed the Brooklyn Patriots Manchester
U-19 team. The Reds fell behind on the score early but
managed to keep their composure and strike back with two
first half goals from Andres Chung and Martin Michaels.
Manchester took advantage of the lack of depth on the Reds
bench in the second half. Reds sweeper Bibash Jung twisted
an ankle on the 63' and had to leave the game.
Coach Guillermo shifted Christian Ortiz
to that position and add Hassan Farid to the midfield left
position. Manchester tied the score in the 67' minute on
a misclearance and took the lead on the 73' on a quick
counter attack. The last pass on the third Manchester goal
looked like an offside but it wasn't called. Salamina fought
back and tied the game on the 85' on a close shot by Andres
Chung. Newcomers Amr Bouach and Sonam Serpa played exceptional
well for the Reds.
"We showed that we can play against
one of the better teams in the League" commented Head Coach
Guillermo Arbelaez. He also added that the young Reds squad
will get stronger as the season progresses.
The next game will be at home this
coming Sunday, March 28th at Con Edison Field versus ABC
Soccer. Kick off is set for 1 PM.
Additional try-outs will be held this
Thursday at 5:30 P.M. at Con Edison Field. Players between

NY Salamina had no major problem defeating Pythagoras Samos last Thursday night
at the NYSSL Indoor. The Reds jumped to a 6-1 early lead with Guillermo Arbalaez
and Nikola Dokic leading the way. Samos cut the lead to 6-4 as the Reds substituted
deeper into their bench therefore giving everyone a chance to play. Salamina
answered back with Diego Mayanga and Christian Camacho with four more goals
to cap a 10-7 victory.
In other games, the Albanian Eagles
defeated Lykourgos to maintain a three point first place
lead. The Hoyt City Rockers "rocked" Polykratis
11-8 and are in second place in striking distance from the top. The NYSSL continues
this Thursday night with plenty of action. For a complete schedule please click

Guillermo, Nikola Dokic and Diego
Mayanga led the Salamina Reds over Lykourgos with a 10-6
score last Thursday night in the NYSSL. The Reds fell behind
1-0 early on but with Nikola's entrance into the game things
changed drastically as the veteran striker assisted on
two goals and added three of his own. Guillermo Arbelaez
was the high scorer for the Reds with five goals and Diego
added two more.
In other games in the NYSSL, Hoyt City
and the Albanian Eagles marched on with convincing wins
over PL NY and Pythagoras with 11-6 and 8-4 scores.
The League continues this Thursday
night with the first game kicking off at 7:30 P.M.
SLIDE WITH 9-8 LOSS TO PL NY
The Reds continued their NYSSL campaign
with a new loss, this time to the Polish Ukrainians. Salamina
with an early 2-0 lead could not stop the fury of the Polish
team that came back with four consecutive goals. Nikola Dokic and Guillermo
were the only regulars in the line-up as the Reds looked to the younger players
to overcome the absences.
"We needed more than the steady goaltending" added
Coach Andrew Parperides. Key absences from Camacho, Victor
Kotinsky and Phil Penns did not help the situation. A late
minute goal by Dokic cut the lead to 9-8 but a post by
Guillermo found the Reds a goal short.
In other games the Hoyt City Rockers
overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit to defeat Lykourgos 6-5
and therefore climb higher in the standings.
A CLOSE ONE TO ISSC
The Reds dropped a game last Sunday
night that was accompanied by plenty of defensive errors.
Although the Reds jumped ahead in the score 1-0 with Victor
Kotinsky's follow through shot on the 28', apparently it
was not enough to overcome of what was to follow.
The Reds came to the game with three
key absences: Nikola Dokic (father passed away), Teddy
Maciek(sore ankle), and Phil Penz (red card). On the 44'
Costas Sapountzis in his attempt to clear the ball, gets
called for a handball inside the box. The penalty tied
the game of ISSC at 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, the Reds had three
classic opportunities to go ahead 2-1. In the 64' Costas
Sapountzis on a good give and go finds himself real close
only to lift the ball over the horizontal. On the 73' Danny
Stoker from the edge of the box takes a strong shot that
was deflected to a corner by an ISSC defender. On the 81'
Odysseas Rondos on a rebound drives the ball into the horizontal
post. ISSC on a free kick stole the three points as a header
following the cross by Constantine (former Salamina player)
found the corner of the net on the 88'.
